📅 Season guide
Oslo changes character through the year: skiing in Marka and at Holmenkollen in winter, 17 May and outdoor terraces in spring, fjord swims, island hopping and festivals in summer, a cultural autumn with Culture Night and Ultima — and Christmas in Spikersuppa. Pick your month — and see what awaits.
🕯️ Dark and cosy
Darker days — museums, theatre and the Christmas markets open
November is Oslo’s darkest and greyest month — and therefore the best for indoor culture. Films from the South screens cinema from Asia, Africa and Latin America, the theatres run full programmes, and the museums are calm. Towards the end of the month the Christmas lights come on: Jul i Vinterland opens in Spikersuppa with an ice rink and stalls, and the Christmas markets at Bygdøy and Youngstorget follow. The first snow usually arrives — but don’t count on it staying.
