About SALT Art & Music

SALT is an art project that was established in 2014 on Sandhornøy in North Norway. The inspiration and focal point was the traditional "fish rack", a sustainable structure that for thousands of years has made it possible to dry fish for export and trade. This trade gave the coastal people the economy to build boats and communities along the entire coast. On Sandhornøy, SALT was an art project. In 2016, SALT moved to Oslo and has since tried out new ways to understand a place and explored new uses in the urban space through artistic and cultural events. In 2021, SALT was awarded Oslo city's artist prize for its significant contribution to the capital's cultural life. In 2024, SALT's largest sauna, Árdna, was named "The world's best cultural sauna".
