This section is the first you come to. Walking clockwise around the bed, you get an insight into how land plants have evolved over millions of years. You see liverworts, mosses, ferns, clubmosses, cycads and conifers, plant groups that originated before flowering plants existed on Earth. One of the conifers is a Wollemia nobilis, which was discovered as recently as 1994 near Sydney, Australia. You will also find a red sandstone with 50 million-year-old leaf fossils. It was brought from Svalbard in 2017. It is remarkable that the leaves look almost exactly like the leaves on today's deciduous trees.
