In 1997 when this business saw the light of day, the coffee boom in Oslo was still in its infancy. It was designers Heiberg & Cummings who had been tasked with re-designing Backe Glass Magazine and wanted Kaffebrenneriet into parts of the premises. During the process, the placement of the coffee bar ended up in an area of the store that sits slightly higher than the rest. After removing the world's hardest concrete, and destroying jackhammers and other equipment, a door towards Grensen was created and eventually a big opening party with coffee and industry people. The store quickly became a major bean shop as this area was known for coffee shops such as Stockfleths, Black Cat and at that time Grensen coffee and tea. The shop has since been rebuilt according to the original Heidi Pettersvold design. We have designed the shop with straight lines in line with 1950s style.
