Ivar Dyrhaug makes comparisons…so do we. If Montana in the USA is Big Sky Country, then Torshov is the roof of the world. Torshov sits elevated above the city. Large sturdy buildings. The area breathes and has a charming light. And this is said with no disrespect to other neighborhoods. Before coffee, we can remember Torshov for the best sausages and other goods from the local butcher and of course Torshov Sport. Soria Moria lay there like a stronghold of culture and in the background the tenors of the Torshov choir trumpeted their important message. A thousand years ago there were other gods. At Torshov there was in the Viking age a house in honor of the god Thor and it probably lay where Torshov school lies today. The street that today connects the neighborhood to the city was named in 1864 after the Eidsvoll man Jørgen Herman Vogt (1784 - 1862).
